Seattle Council PTSA has a new grant award for Seattle PTAs to promote Family Engagement – with a special focus on supporting new and emerging PTAs and PTAs in communities with high numbers of bilingual students and students who participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. We have over $8,000 to award in grants of up to $300. www.seattlecouncilptsa.org.
For the first round of applications, we will also give special consideration for applications which support the National PTA “Take Your Family to School” Week (see below). Contact us at grant@seattlecouncilptsa.org or leave a message at (206) 364-7430.

WA State PTA Legislative Focus Day February 13, 2008
Plan to join PTA advocates from across the state in Olympia for the WSPTA annual Legislative Focus Day. There will be plenty of advocacy materials and training – first timers are encouraged to attend! We will be meeting with legislators at lunchtime and SCPTSA is scheduling appointments with our Seattle legislators throughout the day. Look for more information at www.wastatepta.org and on our website. We will also be organizing carpools and giving a brief advocacy overview at our January 28 meeting.

to school representatives and enrollment specialists. Get your questions answered! Bilingual staff will be available to serve as interpreters and answer questions. [Note: NW Cluster PTAs are also sponsoring a Middle School Fair on January 17, 7-8:30pm at Whittier Elementary School with representatives from Broadview, Eckstein, Hamilton , McClure, Salmon Bay , and Whitman.]
Superintendent Community Gathering for District 2 Tuesday January 15, 11:45am Hamilton International Middle School Library School Superintendent Maria L. Goodloe-Johnson is sponsoring informal gatherings to meet community members and learn about each district. The meetings run from 11:45am-1:15pm and are open to the public on a space-available basis. School lunches will be available for purchase, but must be reserved in advance by calling Pat McKenzie in the Public Affairs office, (206) 252-0200 or by e-mailing pmckenzie@seattleschools.org.
Facilities Master Plan Community Meetings
January 14, 15 and 16 (7-8:30pm) The Seattle Public Schools Facilities Department will be holding a series of Public Open Houses on the updating of the Facilities Master Plan (FMP). This policy document brings together major District policies, studies, and documents into one document that will guide the future direction of capital construction projects (BEX/BTA) and facilities use, re-use, repurposing, and/or closure. The public is invited to attend one of three community open houses during the month of January. A draft FMP document will be prepared for review and adoption by the Seattle School Board in April, 2008.
