About Cleveland High School  Academies
(return to Cleveland Web site)

Our focus is on creating a supportive, challenging, healthy learning environment that prepares all students for college and productive lives after high school. Students’ needs and interests are met through the development of four-year relationships with Academy teachers and staff.

Description of Programs and Offerings

Cleveland High School consists of three theme based small learning communities, or Academies, and an Arts conservatory. All students select one academy and stay within that academy for the four years that they attend CHS. Each academy offers a college preparatory academic program, with opportunities for community based learning and internships in the business and professional communities. Academy Advisory Committees that include professionals in the fields related to each academy support academy staff with curriculum development and resources. Staff participates in weekly professional development activities that include, critical friends groups, math institute, and literacy initiative. Cleveland continues to participate in the Beacon Hill Pathway for articulation of learning and teaching for grades K through 12. Cleveland is the only Seattle Public Schools high school that offers its students the opportunity to qualify for a Gates Foundation Achievers four-year college scholarship.
